Frequently Asked Questions
What time do the races start?
The 226 Challenge will start around 6:30am, once the Swim Course Leader is satisfied with the available light. In order to facilitate local church services, the Half Ireman starts at noon.
Can I register on the morning of the race?
There will be limited registration on race day (8am to 10am) and participants are strongly encouraged to register on the Saturday. The Race Crew have many jobs to attend to on race day, so registartion will close promptly at 10:00am.
Can I rack my bike on the Saturday?
No. All bikes will be racked on race day. All Half Ireman competitors must be inside the transition area when it closes at 11:45am, before the race briefing takes place.
Do I need to be a member of Triathlon Ireland?
For insurance purposes, you must hold a Triathlon Ireland full or student membership, a pre-purchased One Day Licence or racing membership of another ITU affiliated governing body such as the BTF.
Can I buy a One Day Licence at the race?
No. One Day Licences must be purchased through the Triathlon Ireland website no later than Thursday 16th August.
Must I wear a wetsuit?
Water temperature is likely to be around 15 degrees and wetsuits are compulsory?
What is the water quality like?
Groomsport is identified as one of Northern Ireland's 24 coastal bathing areas. Over the last six years, the water has been rated as either good or excellent by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency. Further information is available HERE.
