Race History
The original Ireman race took place in July 2000 over the full Ironman distance of 3.8k/180k/42.2k. Organised by our pioneering colleagues within the Triangle Club it was centred at beautiful Benone beach on the north coast - it remains Ireland's first and only long distance race.
The original Ireman race report can be seen here. The Triangle Club boasts many long distance competitors and has continued to promote long distance racing with the annual 3 Day Ironman event. Spreading the race over three days offers the same distances but a very different challenge. Some even argue that it's more difficult than a single day race. 2007 saw the introduction of the half ironman distance race in Groomsport, with nearly 100 competitors involved. Inaugural victories - and course records - were enjoyed by Belpark's Fernando Fuentes and Triangle's Kay Hack.
2008 witnesses more than 200 competitors tackle Half Ireman under sunny skies once again. Victory went to Denmark's Kim Visby and Russia's Elena Maslova. Both representing the Naas Wheelworx team.
